In part one of this series, I spoke about the Elder races. In this, I also mentioned the Piiril Uprising and the fall of the Enlightened Kingdom. That naturally begs the question of ‘Okay, so what happened?’ I’m going to try to shine a little bit of light on that.
The Piiril Uprising came about from Alexander Kostan finally had enough of the Alfar lord that owned the land on which he and his family subsisted. He also found himself gifted with a rather potent form of magic that seemed to defy the laws of thaumaturgy that controlled such workings in the world. Using this power and his own personal charisma, he slew his overlord and began a rebellion against Valgustunad Haal.
In time, people hailed him as the Undying Light of Morning and his lieutenants, all potent elemental spellcasters, were referred to as his Seraphim. Each of them selected a gemstone as part of their mystique (Emerald, Sapphire, Ruby, and Opal) while Kostan became associated with the diamond due to the unbreakable nature of his resistance to the Enlightened Kingdom.
Beginning in the far eastern Cantrev of Piiril, Kostan built an army and met the main strength of Haal’s forces at Outono. Scholars still debate exactly what happened and how it happened. Regardless of the views, Kostan’s rebellion held the day although it appeared his personal power exhausted itself during the battle. Regardless, the strength of his forces and the magic of his Seraphim proved enough to move on and destroy the capitol of Keskus.
Following this, Kostan and his Seraphim established the Diamond Imperium with its seat in the city of Andris. While close to four hundred years have passed since the battle of Outono, Kostan somehow still rules the Imperium while his Seraphim change every twenty-five years.
