It’s been a bit since I’ve updated here. So I figure it’s time for that.

The Sanctuary Lock: After a year of querying the manuscript, I’m starting the process of self-publishing the novel. I’ve found someone to do a full manuscript edit, and I’m starting to research cover artists. It’s my hope to have it out in Q1 of next year, but obviously that’s going to depend on a large number of factors.

The Thousand Doors: I finished the first draft of the second Diamond Imperium book last month. Since then, I did my first edit pass, and those changes are now in the manuscript. I sent it off to the first round of Beta reads this morning. Once that feedback returns, I’ll look at another round of edits.

Diamond Imperium Book 3: At some point, probably before the end of the year, I’ll get the outline for the final book done. I need to let book 2 settle for a bit before I do it, though, as TTD proved to be a struggle to write for a variety of reasons.

So what am I doing while this is going on? About halfway through writing The Thousand Doors, an idea slammed into my head while listening to the Warning’s albums Queen of the Murder Scene. I had to actively put aside TTD to write out the outline and character sketches for the main characters. This resulted in what I’m currently calling The Autumn Assassin, although The Red Hand of Autumn is making a play for the title.

I’ve finished the first chapter of this book, and it’s been a lot of fun. It feels like it’s going to fall into somewhere between Grimdark and Humor fantasy. I’m drawing inspiration for the main character from all of my friends who are currently going through menopause and dealing with all the general bullshit in the US right now. Ashlan, the main character, begins the story with her field of fucks completely barren, and it’s only going to get worse from there.

This weekend is MultiverseCon in Peachtree City, Georgia. This has become one of those things that stays on my calendar for attendance. It’s a chance to see friends, attend some good panels, and generally have fun for a weekend. It also helps that it’s about 15m from my mom’s, so my kids get to spend the weekend with their Grammy.

I’ve also put in my reservation to attend SAGA in March of next year in Charlotte. I appreciate what John Hartness and Falstaff books have put together to provide a regional Genre fiction workshop, and I’m looking forward to attending.
